Taking inspiration from Maxo Vanka’s unsentimental depiction of the working-class Croatian community experience in Pittsburgh, “Khaled Misplaces a Photograph of His Mother’s House in Nablus” employs a tableau style reminiscent of murals to capture the liminality of the immigrant experience.
